Can a commercial lessee “assign their leasehold interest” to a standby lessee without my permission?
August 28, 2007
We now have a lease agreement for a major oil company by the year 2010, with four options to renew by the year 2030. There is a lease watch in effect to the operator of the station. The oil company just me she attributes her interest immediately to the operator of the station. Is this allowed? The day before, said–2010?

A “major oil company” vs free legal advice on Yahoo! answers… I dunno, hard to predict who might win this one.
All contracts are assignable by default unless it specifically states otherwise. Check your lease with the major oil company, and see if it says that they CAN’T assign the lease. If nothing is mentioned, by default they can assign it (at least in NY, not sure about other states, but I believe it’s the same everywhere in the U.S.).
I’m not a lawyer, so check with yours if you still have questions about your lease or contract.
An attorney wouldnt speculate without reviewing the documents you need qualified professional to review the lease agreement and interpret.
An attorney review and the assignment notification anything from us is pure speculation even an attorney wouldnt speculate without reviewing the lease agreement and interpret.
