Do I make my ‘santa’ letter subtle as a sledgehammer or cotton?

November 30, 2009

I’m in the middle of writing my wish list for Santa for this year. As per usual, I’m looking for lots of gadgets and toys for big boys. One of my wish list items is a bit of a strange one but after a visit to the hardware store for some essentials, I saw a brochure on spring plungers and now I want one! I wonder if Santa will know what it is? Maybe I need to be really specific and leave a picture and description of the size and type I want…

Too fit or too fat – that is the question

November 30, 2009

How much fitness equipment is enough for a person? I called over to my sister tonight for dinner. The woman has an obsession with diet and exercise so I don’t tend to go visit for dinner very often because I find it too much like hard work. She’s all work and no play. I tend to think a little of what you love can’t hurt you. I might be on the cuddly side but at least I’ll be warmer than my stick thin sister this winter.

A piece of paper that told me how to lose weight

November 30, 2009

I got a bunch of flyers through the door yesterday. Normally I throw them straight into the recycling but one of them caught my eye yesterday. It was about a weight loss diet . Not for the first time in my life, I’m trying to lose a few pounds and not having much luck. This flyer was like a sign. I’ve decided to try out this supplement and hopefully I’ll lose the pounds I’m so desperate to say goodbye too.

Studying made easier when you know how

November 30, 2009

My niece is studying for exams at the moment so being the conscientious uncle I am, I decided to buy her some LSAT prep materials to help her study. She’s hoping to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a lawyer. She’s a pretty smart kid so I’ve no doubt she’ll do well. I was never great at studying, could never concentrate long enough. Still, I’m doing ok. Often think I’d make a better student now than I did way back when. Now shes off with her Eagle Creek luggage back to college!

Haven’t we met some place before?

November 30, 2009

With the advent of the internet , employee screening has become paramount in recruiting new employees as we discovered much to our surprise yesterday. One of our candidates turned out to be a former employee who had remarried and changed her name. The same employee had been dismissed for gross misconduct a few years ago and it seems she thought we’d forgotten. Good job the procedures were in place to spot her in time.

Getting alerted where-ever you go

November 19, 2009

Safe as houses even when you’re not there to mind it My house alarm kept activating because there was a faulty sensor. I decided to contact the maintenance team who service the alarm for me. They identified and fixed the fault and also upgraded my system now so if my alarm is triggered a text alert system notifies me and then I notify the security team or the police of a possible intruder. What will they think of next?

Getting transport and getting out there!

November 19, 2009

Having a safe place so secret you can’t find it yourself Do you have a safe place for keeping all those important documents? You know the ones – car insurance, home insurance, that type of thing? Well I do. So when I went to retrieve my motorhome warranty from my safe place and I couldn’t find it, I didn’t know where else to look. It seems I have another safe place for keeping things that even I can’t find it!

Hard Drive for the cold weather out there

November 19, 2009

When the temperature outside doesn’t feel the same on the inside… I’ve been on some hard drives in my time but today has to have been one of the toughest drives of my life. I had the misfortune to be stuck in my car with two colleagues today, neither of whom I am particularly fond of for one reason or another. It was very hot outside but you’d never have thought it with the frosty atmosphere in the car! Luckily we reached our destination and back again completely unscathed.

Taking a trip down memory lane

November 1, 2009

One of my earliest childhood memories is a camping trip I took with my uncle and cousin as a young kid. It was quite possibly the coolest thing I remember and I hope someday to do it all over again. One of my colleagues was telling me about his orlando vacations and they sound pretty fun too. So why not do both trips I say? I’ve earned it!

You want sugar with that – one lump or two?

November 1, 2009

One of my first ‘go to’ jobs as an office junior some years back, ok, a LOT of years back, involved doing the coffee run one morning. Not being a city slicker at the time, I didn’t realise how many different kinds of coffee there are. I had orders for double shot lattes, espresso, hot chocolate, decaf, Nespresso and several others too boot. It took me a few trips until I got that order right.
