It’s that time of year again when I need to renew my home insurance. My renewal quote came in at more or less the same price as last year but I decided to be money conscious and shop around this year. Doing so has saved me a few dollars – better in my wallet than theirs I say! Hopefully I’ll never need to claim on the insurance. I’m going to treat the wife to a nice dinner date with the money I’m saving with the new provider. Hopefully the house will still be fully intact when we get back and moving insurance providers won’t come back to bite us in the ass!

Build your own car!

July 31, 2009

Browsing through the classified section of my local free sheet the other day, I noticed someone selling Ferrari parts. I thought it was an ingenious idea. I mean, in this recession, who can afford a full Ferrari? Not many I’m thinking so this way you buy a piece as you can afford it and then build your own customised car!! How cool is that? My boyfriend informed me that it was probably a garage selling on spare parts to those who already own a full Ferrari and might need replacement parts. Really, he’s got no imagination.

Bringing the indoors OUTdoors!

July 31, 2009

I’m off shopping tomorrow, not for me but for my garden. I’m going to treat it to some outdoor furniture! There’s great sales on at the moment. My plan is to have a barbecue and have a few friends round. We’ll crack open a few bottles and throw on a few sausages, steaks, etc and fill our faces! All I need for it to work effectively now is my tan and the weather – good weather! That or large umbrellas…

Who put that there?

I’ve just come back from our office store room and seen all the industrial supplies that are stored there. I’m going to have to get in touch with the care taker about this and report the incident to him. The products are clearly in the wrong place. I can’t believe that stores have allowed this to happen. What about stock control and procedures? The office store room is not a store room for other departments to use! It should only be used for administrative supplies. Heads are going to roll for this!

Business Training for the masses

July 31, 2009

I recently had to consult into a company with 500 employees and we had to look at every aspect of employee training for the normal Joe , but to look at leadership coaching for management because we had figured that everyone needed a re-invention. First off , Leadership coaching is something that not every manager can get involved in , but once they do they see the added benefit. Managers generally have a cynical outlook at these kind of courses but with the right people involved it shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel and this filters down to employees. For Employees we looked at mediation courses to keep all of them relaxed and into a learning zone that would benefit them more than standard training. We do believe however that learnin , be it online or in the classroom. The most important part of the partnership between the trainer and the trainee is collaboration and getting motiviation into the environment instead of bored users sitting in front of PC’s which we would rather give them a different experience to the norm! Wrapping up and getting feedback is almost as important as training itself and employees who feel that they cant feedback up to the trainer are left frustrated and we cant have that can we!
